Troposphere- 10 miles up and storms occur there

Stratosphere- Airplanes fly zone and ozone layer

Albedo- Reflectablity of a surface from sunlight

Hadley Cells- air rising from equator that cool as it goes towards the poles and then warms again and repeats
Gyres- Ocean currents caused by prevailing winds
Upwelling- Cool water from the bottom of the ocean that goes to the surface
Thermohaline Circulation-Flow of ocean water caused by changes in density
Rain shadow- An area that gets no rain on one side and a lot on the other(caused by something blocking the rain on the other like a mountain)

CURRENT EVENT-El Niño
The national weather service has stated that the water along San Diego has gotten warmer. By 7 degrees. El Nino allowed Hurricane Norbert to reach Baja California but the chances of there being an El Nino winter are dwindling and it will cause this to be third consecutive year of drought in Southern California. El Niño disturbs patterns such as upwelling as well.
El Niño has many impacts on the environment and the economy and anything that impacts either the environment or the economy also impacts us, the humans. El Niño has good impacts and also bad ones. El Niño leads to fewer hurricanes and other tropical cyclones in the north Atlantic, warmer winters in southern Canada and the northern United States. It also helps replenish water supply aka prevents droughts.
El Niño also hurts some species. It can dislocate certain species from their ecosystem and this can hurt fisheries since it could displace fishes from their original spot making them harder to catch/find. El Niño is also responsible for crop failures since the heavy rainfall it causes can flood plants and farms. This could raise the prices of either since they would be in high demand since there is not much of it.
El Niño also can lead to negative impacts on human health. It has been linked with increases in diseases transmitted by insects such as mosquitoes. With the humidity caused by el Niño, the number of mosquitoes rises in certain areas as do the diseases that accompany these pesky insects.
There are currently people trying to get the government to pass a law to protect fisheries and endangered species from El Niño.
